Anaheim Protest Draws Crowd; Transit Shutdown and Chicken Policy Stir Debate
Anaheim, CA – March 26, 2026 – Protesters gather at La Palma Park as transit shutdown looms and City Council debates backyard chicken rules.
A busy week in Anaheim is putting transportation, public policy and neighborhood rules in the spotlight.
Protest at La Palma Park
Residents gathered at La Palma Park on Tuesday, March 24, as part of a larger Orange County protest effort organized by regional advocacy groups. The Anaheim event ran from mid-afternoon into the evening and included a rally and coordinated appearances at City Hall.
Organizers said the demonstration focused on national political concerns, but the visible turnout also highlighted how public spaces like La Palma Park continue to serve as hubs for civic engagement in Anaheim.
ART Bus Service Nears Final Stop
Anaheim Resort Transportation, formerly known as the Anaheim Transportation Network, is preparing to conclude all service on March 31, 2026. The shutdown follows a January board vote to wind down operations due to financial challenges.
The end of ART service will affect resort-area workers, residents and visitors who rely on shuttles and local circulator routes. On-demand services were already discontinued earlier this month. City leaders have not announced a direct replacement, raising questions about how employees in the resort district will commute beginning in April.
The closure also comes as larger regional transit discussions continue around ARTIC and future rail improvements, putting added attention on how Anaheim balances tourism access with workforce mobility.
Backyard Chicken Rules Revisited
At its March 24 meeting, the Anaheim City Council took up discussion of the city’s backyard chicken ordinance. Current rules limit residents to one bird per 1,800 square feet with significant setback requirements.
Supporters of reform argue Anaheim’s policy is more restrictive than nearby cities and say updating it could support food access and sustainability goals. Others have raised concerns about noise, setbacks and neighborhood impacts.
The discussion reflects broader conversations across Orange County about zoning flexibility, small-scale food production and how local regulations evolve with community needs.
