Housing Pressure, Transit Shifts and Major Development Updates Lead Anaheim Headlines
Anaheim, CA – April 2, 2026 – Housing targets, transit changes and a major Platinum Triangle buildout are shaping city policy and investment.
Anaheim is juggling big decisions this week — from housing mandates to transit shifts and long-term redevelopment plans in the Platinum Triangle.
City Behind on State Housing Goals
A new countywide housing analysis shows Anaheim is trailing its state-mandated affordable housing production targets, joining several Orange County cities under increased scrutiny. While the city has added hundreds of units in recent years, it has not yet met benchmarks for lower-income housing under the current Regional Housing Needs Allocation cycle.
The pressure comes as officials continue working with state housing regulators to maintain compliance and protect local zoning authority. Housing policy remains one of the most closely watched issues at City Hall, especially in high-growth areas like Anaheim Hills and the Platinum Triangle.
OC Vibe Project Moves Toward 2026 Construction Phase
The $4 billion OC Vibe development surrounding Honda Center is preparing for a major construction push this spring. The mixed-use district, backed largely by private investment with city-issued bonds, is expected to bring new housing, retail, public plazas and infrastructure upgrades near Angel Stadium and the ARTIC transit hub.
City leaders view the project as a long-term economic engine designed to boost tax revenue, jobs and transit-oriented development. Phase One is targeted for completion in 2027.
Resort Transit Network Winds Down
Meanwhile, Anaheim’s tourism-focused bus system officially ended service March 31, marking a major shift in local transportation. The Anaheim Transportation Network, which operated the ART shuttle system serving the resort area, ceased operations after decades of moving visitors between hotels and Disneyland.
The closure leaves questions about how resort-area transit demand will be met moving forward, particularly as large-scale development continues around the Honda Center and regional rail connections.
What It Means
Together, these developments highlight the balancing act Anaheim faces: meeting state housing mandates, sustaining tourism infrastructure, and financing transformative redevelopment projects — all while managing long-term fiscal stability.
