Kern County Science Fair sends two Bakersfield students to an international stage
Results are in from the 38th annual Kern County Science Fair, hosted this week at the Dignity Health Convention Center. More than 700 students (grades 4–12) advanced from school and district rounds to compete at the county level, with volunteer judges reviewing projects and interviewing students. Two high school projects will represent Kern County at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, May 10–15: Simar Singh (Bakersfield Christian High School) and Eric Nahama (Bakersfield High School).
CHP announces free ‘Start Smart’ class for teen drivers on March 10
The California Highway Patrol’s Bakersfield office is offering a free, two-hour Start Smart class for teen drivers and their parents/guardians at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at 9855 Compagnoni St. The session focuses on safe driving habits, avoiding crashes, and the consequences of risky decisions behind the wheel. Space is limited, and registration is handled by phone through the local CHP office.
Bakersfield Speedway tees up ‘March Madness’ racing night March 7
Local racing returns Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway, with multiple divisions scheduled to run. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m., with racing slated to start around 6 p.m. It’s a busy weekend draw for fans and families, and a reminder to keep an eye out for heavier traffic near the track before and after the mains.
