Top headline: Arrests in 2023 North Boulevard killing
Baton Rouge police say two suspects have been booked in connection with the October 2023 death of Joshua Phillips, who was found on North Boulevard near N. 20th Street. Investigators say both Walneisha Richardson, 28, and Jermaine Savoy, 26, face second-degree murder charges as the case moves forward.
North Baton Rouge shooting investigation
Detectives are working a recent deadly shooting after police found 42-year-old Jermaine Clark with gunshot wounds on North 13th Street near North Boulevard on the night of Feb. 27. He was taken to a hospital and later died. Police have not announced a suspect or motive.
Deadly motorcycle crash on Airline Highway
Louisiana State Police say a fatal crash on Feb. 28 on US 61 (Airline Highway), just south of Jefferson Highway, involved a motorcycle and a car. Troopers say excessive speed was a factor and that 43-year-old Samuel Wright of Gonzales died after being taken to a local hospital.
Fire damage and travel delays
A weekend house fire in the 800 block of S. Burgess Drive caused an estimated $200,000 in combined structural and contents losses, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department. No one was inside at the time, no injuries were reported, and officials say the cause is still under investigation.
Drivers also dealt with major slowdowns west of the city after a four-vehicle crash involving big rigs shut down I-10 westbound near the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge area on Feb. 28, with closures and backups affecting the Capital Region commute.
