Belton is heading into the weekend with growth front and center, as the city asks residents to help shape major projects and downtown’s next chapter.

Input sought on major entertainment district

City staff are inviting neighbors to a neighborhood meeting about a mixed-use project near N. Cedar Street and E. 163rd Street that could add roughly 600 new homes, a large family-focused entertainment venue, and tens of thousands of square feet of shops and restaurants, with construction targeted for spring 2026. The proposal, known as the Uptown District, is also scheduled for a Planning Commission hearing later this month so residents can weigh in before formal votes.

Downtown voices push for a walkable Main Street

Business owners and residents packed a recent listening session on the future of downtown, calling for more dining, entertainment, and public spaces while keeping Old Town’s small-town feel. City leaders say the downtown plan is meant to complement, not compete with, new growth on the north side by filling vacant lots, attracting small-scale developers, and drawing new residents back to Main Street after work.

Cutting red tape along North Scott Road

On the west side, small business owners along North Scott Road told the city they want fewer development hurdles, fresher storefronts, and basics like a grocery store and more fuel options. In response, staff are drafting development code changes tied to the 2050 Comprehensive Plan, aiming to ease some rules so existing businesses can expand and new projects can move forward without shifting costs onto taxpayers.

Around town today

The “Building Belton: Reimagine Main Street” open house wrapped up Thursday, but presentation boards are still available online for feedback. Looking ahead, Belton Parks and Recreation is promoting a Sock Hop Family Dance on Saturday, February 28, while local venues prepare Super Bowl weekend events, including a Sunday luau party on State Route D. Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and highs near the upper 40s.
