Branford High School remains closed as roof and building-system repairs approach scheduled completion
Branford High School remains closed to staff and the public while the district carries out a full roof replacement and other urgent building repairs, with construction scheduled to finish shortly before the 2026-27 school year.
The closure was announced June 19 and is scheduled to continue through August 18. The project affects the high school at 185 East Main Street in Branford, where students, families and school employees temporarily do not have normal access to the building during the summer construction period.
Roof and building repairs
The Town of Branford solicited bids for roofing and translucent wall-panel replacements at the high school. The official project schedule set construction to begin April 29, 2026, and scheduled completion for August 20, 2026.
Branford Public Schools described the repairs as urgent but planned work intended to improve the buildingโs safety, function and long-term durability. The work includes the full roof replacement and repairs to core building systems, according to local reporting.
A separate town bid record covers additional heating, ventilation and air-conditioning work in the schoolโs F Wing. That project is expected to be completed no later than August 21, 2026, so the building can be ready for the 2026-27 school year.
What is known about reopening
The roofing projectโs scheduled completion date comes two days after the announced closure period ends, while the separate HVAC work has a deadline three days after that closure date. Those dates are targets, not confirmation that construction has finished or that the school has reopened.
As of August 7, the approved sources did not confirm final completion of the work or a completed reopening. They also did not establish the projectโs full cost or the amount of any contractor award.
Part of a broader facilities plan
The roof and systems work is part of a multiyear facilities program for Branford High School. Later phases may include updated learning spaces and common areas, cafeteria and kitchen upgrades, career and technical education spaces, and additional systems and technology work.
For now, the immediate change is temporary loss of access to the high school while the district addresses building safety, daily function and long-term durability. The scheduled August deadlines are the next known milestones for the project and the transition into the new school year.
