Overnight fire destroys home on Oakwood Trail
Investigators are working to determine what sparked an early Friday morning fire that destroyed a home on Oakwood Trail. Fire crews arrived around 1 a.m. to find the house heavily involved and fought intense flames before bringing the blaze under control.
No injuries were reported, but the home is considered a total loss. Multiple neighboring departments, including Richfield, Brecksville and North Royalton, assisted Broadview Heights firefighters at the scene. The cause of the fire has not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
Council and boards prepare for a full February
City officials are heading into a busy stretch of public meetings. The next Broadview Heights City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 9, at 7:30 p.m., with additional council and committee sessions planned throughout the month.
The Planning Commission is set to meet on Wednesday, February 11, followed by a Finance Committee meeting and council work session on February 16. Another regular council meeting is on the calendar for February 23. Residents can attend in person at City Hall or follow posted agendas and minutes online to track decisions affecting zoning, development and city spending.
Tax help, sponsors and theater on the community calendar
The city is highlighting several programs and events as winter rolls on. The AARP Tax Aide program is getting underway for the season, offering free tax preparation assistance for eligible residents through April 14. Appointments are required, and spots tend to fill quickly early in the filing period.
Broadview Heights is also promoting its 2026 sponsor program, inviting local businesses and organizations to support city events and recreation programs. Meanwhile, Spotlights Theater is preparing for its upcoming production of the musical A Little Night Music, running from February 20 through March 7.
Residents can also find information about the Blue Envelope Program, designed to improve interactions between law enforcement and drivers on the autism spectrum or with communication challenges, along with updates on trash and recycling schedules and other city services.
