Brockway pool will remain closed for 2026 as officials assess repairs costing at least $500,000

Brockway’s community pool will remain closed for the 2026 summer season after officials determined that deterioration in the facility makes it unsafe to operate. The Brockway Recreation Board is seeking grants, fundraising and other funding while it pursues an engineering and professional evaluation of the repairs.

The pool’s liner has failed, and the metal structure beneath it has deteriorated, according to a July 1 announcement reported by ABC23. Officials currently estimate that repairs will cost at least $500,000, but that figure is preliminary. The final project cost will not be known until the engineering and professional evaluations are completed.

What the closure means

Residents will not have access to Brockway’s community pool during the 2026 summer season. The closure also removes a seasonal employment opportunity that the pool has provided to local teenagers.

The park’s splash pad remains open during the pool closure, giving residents a separate water-recreation option. The packet does not establish whether the splash pad will have any changes to its operation.

The pool opened in 1958 and is now nearly 70 years old. Officials hope it can reopen in 2027 if funding is secured, but there is not yet a confirmed reopening date, final repair budget or secured grant amount.

Funding and evaluation come next

The Recreation Board’s next known steps are to obtain an engineering evaluation, search for grants and other funding, and pursue community fundraising. The $500,000 figure should be treated as an initial estimate rather than a final project cost. No funding for the pool has been identified as secured.

Separate Brockway utility projects

Brockway also has separate water and wastewater projects moving forward, but the approved information does not connect those efforts to pool repairs.

On May 21, 2026, USDA Rural Development announced $5.2 million in loan funds for the Brockway Borough Municipal Authority. The funding is intended to modernize the aging water plant and replace integral equipment and parts, helping support compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection regulations and reliable drinking water for the 6,012 people identified as served.

Separately, the Brockway Area Sewage Authority issued a solicitation for replacement of clarifier bearings, a shaft and a skirt. The bid deadline is 1 p.m. local time Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026.

Those utility projects are distinct from the pool’s repair and fundraising effort. For the pool, the next financial and technical milestones remain the engineering review and the search for money that could make a 2027 reopening possible.
