FebFest takes over Lake Ann

Lake Ann Park is the center of town today as the 33rd annual February Festival runs from noon to 3 p.m. The city’s winter tradition brings families onto the ice for an afternoon of fishing, skating and cold-weather fun.

The ice fishing contest runs from 1 to 3 p.m., with more than $6,000 in prizes available for the 50 largest fish by weight. Holes are pre-drilled, tickets are sold per hole, and anglers 16 and older need a valid fishing license. Around the contest, visitors can warm up at bonfires, try snowshoeing or kicksledding, hop on horse-drawn wagon rides and grab snacks from local vendors.

Organizers note that proceeds and sponsorships help support community programs throughout the year. With mild sunshine in the forecast and school back in session Monday, FebFest is positioned to be one of the winter’s busiest family gatherings.

Friday night lights for Storm hoops

On the high school front, Chanhassen’s girls basketball team picked up a solid road win Friday, topping Waconia 75–67 in a statewide slate of prep games. The result keeps the Storm in the mix in a crowded conference race as the regular season heads into its final month.

The victory comes during a stretch of key section matchups for Chanhassen, with coaches emphasizing defensive intensity and balanced scoring. With playoff seedings around the corner, every result against regional rivals like Waconia matters in the standings and in building confidence.

Family events fill the weekend

Beyond the lake, younger readers and families have options close to home today. The Tails for Reading program at the Chanhassen Library invites kids to practice reading aloud with certified therapy animals in short, one-on-one sessions. Librarians highlight the program as a low-pressure way to build confidence and make the library feel welcoming.

Faith communities are also adding to the weekend lineup. St. Hubert is hosting an evening bingo night with food and low-cost game cards, giving neighbors a warm indoor option once the sun sets on FebFest.

Friday’s Sweetheart Dance at the Chanhassen Recreation Center helped kick off the weekend, with kids and their special guests dressing up for dinner, dancing and photos. The event is part of a broader slate of winter recreation programming, including tot-time open gyms and youth camps that keep local facilities busy even when the temperatures drop.
