Tragic Wrong-Way Crash on I-26 Claims Two Lives
Charleston, SC — February 5, 2026 — A devastating wrong-way collision occurred early Monday on Interstate 26 near mile marker 216, resulting in two fatalities and one injury. A 2019 Volkswagen traveling west in the eastbound lanes collided head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet SUV. The driver of the Volkswagen and a front-seat passenger in the Chevrolet were pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet remains hospitalized. The identities of the victims have not been released. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
