Fatal Shooting on Alton Street
A 24-year-old man was fatally shot on Alton Street in North Charleston. The incident occurred around 9 p.m., and the victim was pronounced dead at the Medical University of South Carolina. The North Charleston Police Department is actively investigating and has not made any arrests yet. Residents with information are encouraged to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Child’s Death on Van Buren Street
Authorities are searching for a suspect in connection with the death of a 4-year-old child on Van Buren Street. The incident took place on December 16, and a murder warrant has been issued for Duane Fransiqo Wright. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Man Charged with Vehicle Crime
A man was charged with vehicle crime after presenting a fake South Carolina license. The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division filed additional charges against Shane Duan Bright, 52, who had previously been booked under an alias. Bright is accused of obtaining a fraudulent driver’s license by presenting false identification documents at an SCDMV office in North Charleston. He now faces two counts of fraudulent application for a license.
Settlement in Walter Scott Case
The family of Walter Scott, who was killed by a North Charleston police officer, has approved a $6.5 million wrongful-death settlement. The settlement includes annuities totaling $1 million for three of Scott’s four children and $3 million for his estate. The remaining funds will be divided among the law firms that represented the family. This settlement aims to provide closure and support to Scott’s family following the tragic incident.
