Columbus facade board deadline is today for August Uptown meeting
Columbus property owners and developers seeking Uptown Facade Board review must submit completed applications by 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, to be considered at the boardโs scheduled Aug. 17 meeting.
The next regular meeting is set for 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, in the ground-floor conference room at the Columbus Consolidated Government Annex, 420 10th St. The applicant or an appointed representative must attend; a case will not be heard without a representative present.
What the board reviews
The boardโs jurisdiction includes Columbusโs Uptown and Central Riverfront districts. Its role covers development, redevelopment, rehabilitation, preservation and maintenance that affects property facades in those areas.
The cityโs facade definition includes the visual portion of a property facing a public right-of-way, including features such as structural and facing materials, windows, doors, trim, steps, railings, cornices, fences, landscaping and other decorative elements. The boardโs design guidelines also address facade rehabilitation, new construction, signage and material changes.
Demolition proposals receive additional review. The board can approve or deny a certificate of appropriateness for demolition of a structure within the Uptown Facade District. Any project remains proposed until the board records an official decision.
Deadline and fees
Applications must be submitted to the Columbus Consolidated Government Planning Department by 5 p.m. on the deadline date with all applicable requirements. The city says incomplete applications will not be accepted after the deadline.
The city lists a $150 fee for board review in the Uptown and Central Riverfront zoning districts. Demolition applications carry a listed $1,000 fee.
Applications are returned to the Planning Department offices on the second floor of the Columbus Consolidated Government Annex at 420 10th St. The city lists 706-225-3934 for more information. Questions about whether an application is complete should be directed to Planning Division Manager Will Johnson before the cutoff; the cityโs webpage lists 706-225-3930 for that completeness review.
What residents can watch
Residents can monitor the process through the cityโs facade-board page, which posts links to meeting agendas, minutes and recordings when available. Those materials can show which proposals are scheduled, what the board discusses and whether a certificate or other action is issued.
The cityโs current meeting schedule lists Aug. 3, 2026, as the application deadline and Aug. 17, 2026, as the meeting date. Dates can be rescheduled, so applicants and residents should check the Planning Departmentโs page for any updated notice or agenda.
