Breaking: Marker 37 marina fire

Firefighters were called out before dawn Monday to a major dock and boat fire near Marker 37 on South Padre Island Drive. Officials said the fire involved marina docks and multiple boats, while nearby businesses and structures were not reported as burning.

Boat owners were asked to stay clear while crews worked hotspots and investigators began sorting out a cause. The timeline for a full reopening of the affected area remained unclear as of Tuesday.

Water supply: desalination project moves to negotiation stage

At Tuesday’s regular meeting, Corpus Christi City Council approved a resolution to negotiate a design-build contract for the Inner Harbor Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant with Corpus Christi Desal Partners. City leaders framed the step as part of the push for a more reliable long-term water supply.

City staff will develop the proposed contract for council consideration in April, setting up another key vote in the coming weeks.

Coast: Bob Hall Pier returns

Bob Hall Pier reopened Feb. 24 with a ribbon-cutting on Padre Island, closing a long rebuilding chapter after Hurricane Hanna destroyed the historic pier in 2020. The return is expected to draw heavy interest from anglers, walkers, and visitors looking for a familiar Gulf-front view.
