School safety and a high-profile arrest

Crowley is grappling with difficult news after a former Crowley ISD high school teacher was arrested this week on multiple charges, including an improper relationship with a student and sexual assault. The arrest followed a law enforcement investigation that began earlier in the week.

District leaders say the educator was removed from contact with students as soon as the allegations surfaced and is no longer employed by the district. Families were notified by letter, and officials emphasized that student safety remains their top priority while the criminal case moves forward.

Police in Fort Worth are leading the investigation. Parents are being encouraged to speak with children about healthy boundaries and to report any concerns directly to campus or district administrators.

City development hearings shape future neighborhoods

City Hall has been busy with public hearings on proposed changes to two of Crowley’s largest planned developments, Karis and Teeter Ranch. Planning and Zoning commissioners have been reviewing requests to adjust lot layouts, side yard setbacks and garage placements in these growing neighborhoods.

For Karis, a developer is asking the city to add a new four home cluster lot type, allow side entry garages on certain 45 foot lots and refine standards for 55 foot front entry homes. Teeter Ranch proposals would reduce side yard setbacks on some single family streets from seven and a half feet to five feet, paired with an updated concept plan.

The City Council began taking up the first of these recommendations on Thursday night and is scheduled to continue public hearings later in February. Residents who may be affected by traffic, drainage or neighborhood character are encouraged to follow the agenda and participate during citizen comment.

Weekend events and local outlook

For those looking for something lighter this weekend, a Galentine’s themed sip and shop is set for late Saturday morning at a local salon and boutique, bringing women owned vendors and casual shopping together on the south side of town. Several other February gatherings, including a Valentine themed dating night and live music events, are also on the calendar in Crowley.

Weather looks seasonable for early February, with sunny skies, afternoon highs around the upper 60s to low 70s and cooler nights dipping into the 40s.
