Dallas Daily Brief: City Hall Move, Convention Center Land Deal, Fair Park Park, DART Fare Update
Dallas, TX – February 26, 2026 – City Hall relocation plans advance, Fair Park park gets a yes, DART fares change March 1, and convention center land deal.
City Hall: committee urges quick move for 911/311
Dallas leaders are moving closer to relocating key operations out of the I.M. Pei-designed City Hall downtown. A finance committee unanimously recommended shifting 911, 311 and emergency operations to another site as soon as possible and exploring redevelopment options for the current property. The discussion centered on a report estimating that modernizing the building’s aging systems could approach the billion-dollar range, a price tag that has pushed some officials to look at relocation instead of renovation.
Next step: the recommendation heads to the full City Council, along with public-facing work on potential sites and what residents want in a future city government center.
Convention center rebuild: $11.3M land settlement approved
City Council also approved an $11.3 million settlement tied to land needed for the downtown convention center overhaul. The deal resolves a condemnation lawsuit and secures a key sliver of property near Young and Houston streets, keeping a multi‑billion‑dollar redevelopment plan moving as demolition work ramps up.
Fair Park: community park agreement gets a green light
After years of planning and neighborhood advocacy, council members unanimously approved a new agreement that clears the way for a long-promised community park at Fair Park. The plan calls for a roughly 10-acre green space with a budget around $40 million, with added oversight measures tied to fundraising, reporting and audits.
Supporters say the park is a long-delayed investment for nearby South Dallas neighborhoods; the project’s timeline now depends on meeting near-term funding and construction milestones.
DART: regional fare changes start March 1
Riders should also note new regional fare pricing starting March 1. The regional day pass is set to drop to $9, with reduced fares adjusted to $4.50 for eligible riders. The regional pass covers participating services across the area under one fare.
