Danville Daily Briefing: Museum events, library lineup and election prep
Danville, IL — February 7, 2026 — Free museum days, new library programs and election prep keep Danville busy through the first full February weekend.
Danville Daily Briefing – February 7, 2026
Danville heads into the weekend with free history programming, fresh library events, and early voting details as residents look ahead to the March primary.
Free weekend at Vermilion County Museum
The Vermilion County Museum is opening its doors for free this weekend, giving residents two chances to explore local history without an admission fee.
Today, the museum is hosting an open house at the Center Building from late morning through the afternoon, featuring its current exhibit on the Underground Railroad in Illinois and student-made posters honoring Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
On Sunday, the museum will hold a special open house focused on Lincoln, tying local stories to his time in the region and inviting families to take part in low-key activities built around his legacy.
Library highlights winter reading and February programs
Danville Public Library has released its schedule for the week of February 15–21, including the final stretch of the Pixels & Pages winter reading challenge, which runs through February 16 for readers of all ages.
Younger kids can keep logging books in the Rubber Ducky Readers challenge, where milestones earn small prizes and recognition, while all ages are invited to join a yearlong Hoopla reading challenge using the library’s digital collection.
The upcoming calendar also includes regular programs for children, teens, and adults, reinforcing the library’s role as a community hub during the slow, cold weeks of late winter.
Today at the library: Story Time for kids
For families looking for something close to home this morning, the library’s Children’s Department is hosting Story Time from 11:00 a.m. to noon, with read-alouds and a simple craft aimed at young children.
The program is designed to be welcoming and accessible, with staff encouraging caregivers to reach out in advance if they need accommodations so everyone can take part.
Afterglow from First Fridays “Glow in the Galaxy”
Last night’s First Fridays event moved beyond downtown, as families packed Illini Skateland on Brewer Road for the Glow in the Galaxy theme night with free roller skating and laser tag.
Arcade games and concessions helped support the venue, while raffle entries for new roller skates added a bit of extra excitement for kids who may now be eager to return for future public skate sessions.
Election prep: early voting schedule posted
With the March 17, 2026 General Primary approaching, the Vermilion County Election Commission has posted an early voting schedule for all city and county precincts at the Joseph G. Cannon Building on North Vermilion Street.
Most early voting takes place on weekdays during business hours, with select Saturday mornings offered closer to Election Day, giving residents multiple chances to cast a ballot ahead of time.
