Democrat Taylor Rehmet Wins Texas Senate Seat in Tarrant County
Fort Worth, TX — February 1, 2026 — Democrat Taylor Rehmet secured a Texas Senate seat in Tarrant County, flipping a traditionally Republican district that includes Fort Worth and its conservative suburbs. Rehmet, an aircraft mechanic and union leader, defeated a Trump-endorsed Republican opponent, despite the district favoring Trump by 17 points in 2024. His victory followed a strong showing in a three-way November race and carried through the runoff, despite low voter turnout caused by icy weather. Rehmet spent significantly less than his opponents, using just over $70,000 in January and $65,000 in November, compared to nearly $2.4 million spent by the two Republicans. This win narrows the Republican majority in the Texas Senate to 18 Republicans, 12 Democrats, and one vacancy. Rehmet and Wambsganss, his opponent, will face off again in the November general election for a full four-year term.
