Eden Prairie Daily Brief: School Lockdown, House Fire, and City Updates
School Lockdown Ends With Arrests
Eden Prairie High School experienced a temporary lockdown this week after a rumor circulated among students about a possible weapon on campus. Police responded quickly, placing the school on hold and then a short lockdown while they investigated.
Authorities later arrested three 16-year-old students in connection with the incident. Police confirmed there was no ongoing threat to students or staff, and school officials emphasized that no direct threats of violence were made. Classes resumed once the lockdown was lifted.
Firefighters Injured in Weekend House Fire
Three Eden Prairie firefighters were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a house fire Saturday evening on the 13000 block of Caramel Trail. The family inside the home escaped safely before crews arrived.
Fire officials said flames were concentrated in the garage when crews arrived. While firefighters were working to extinguish hot spots, part of the structure collapsed, causing injuries from falling debris. The fire caused extensive damage to the garage and significant fire and water damage throughout the home.
City Leaders Share Updates on Growth and Services
At a recent State of the City event, Eden Prairie leaders outlined priorities heading into 2026, including public safety, redevelopment opportunities, and long-term transportation projects. City officials highlighted strong resident satisfaction with quality of life and safety services.
Updates included progress on the police department remodel at City Center, continued testing for the Southwest light rail extension ahead of its planned 2027 opening, and early conversations around redevelopment of large commercial sites. Leaders stressed careful planning as the city balances growth, taxes, and services.
Looking Ahead
With schools, public safety, and development all in focus this week, city officials say community communication remains a priority. More updates are expected as investigations wrap up and projects move forward.
