Farm Bill Signed, Port Board Meets, and Big Shows Open in Tampa
Tampa, FL – March 25, 2026 – Lawmakers advance a major farm bill, Port Tampa Bay meets today, and big shows hit the Straz Center stage.
Tampa is in the middle of a busy week, with developments at the state level, activity at the port, and major performances lighting up downtown.
Governor Signs Sweeping Farm Bill
On March 23, Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 290 into law after it cleared the Florida Legislature earlier this month. The wide-ranging measure touches agriculture, land use, consumer protections, and public safety rules.
The new law limits how local governments can regulate certain agricultural activities, creates incentives to support homegrown food programs, and includes new penalties tied to driver license testing and interference with law enforcement communications. Several provisions take effect July 1, and the changes are expected to ripple across communities statewide, including here in Hillsborough County.
Port Tampa Bay Board Convenes
Port Tampa Bay’s governing board is scheduled to meet today, March 25, as cruise activity and cargo operations continue at a steady pace this spring. Multiple cruise ships are cycling through terminals this week, underscoring the port’s role as both an economic engine and a major travel hub.
With spring break travel still underway, port officials are also monitoring schedules and passenger volumes while advancing long-term planning and infrastructure priorities.
Straz Center Welcomes Major Productions
Downtown’s cultural scene is also in full swing. The touring production of Hell’s Kitchen officially opened this week at the Straz Center’s Carol Morsani Hall, bringing a high-profile Broadway run to Tampa audiences.
Tonight, music lovers can also catch the USF Choral Ensembles performing at the Peter and Cynthia Zinober Concert Hall. Together, the events highlight a packed arts calendar as Tampa heads into the final stretch of March.
