Fatal Crash, New Nature Preserve and Busy Weekend Highlight PSL Headlines
Port St. Lucie, FL – March 7, 2026 – A fatal crash on US 1, a new nature preserve opening, and packed weekend events keep the city busy.
It has been a full and sobering few days across Port St. Lucie, with public safety, community improvements and weekend events all making headlines.
Fatal Crash on U.S. 1 Under Investigation
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday night near the intersection of Savanna Club Boulevard and U.S. 1. The collision happened around 7:55 p.m., prompting the closure of all southbound lanes for several hours.
St. Lucie County sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene. As of Saturday, authorities have confirmed at least one fatality but have not released additional details. Drivers experienced significant delays through late Friday night.
New Nature Preserve Opens in PSL
On a brighter note, a newly established nature preserve in Port St. Lucie officially opened earlier this week. The preserve, known simply as The Preserve, adds protected green space for residents to enjoy walking trails, native habitats and outdoor recreation.
City leaders say the project reflects ongoing efforts to balance growth with conservation, giving families more opportunities to connect with nature close to home.
Hazardous Waste Collection Day Returns
Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste today, March 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at 450 Thornhill Drive. The event is open to St. Lucie County residents, and identification is required.
Officials remind residents to review accepted materials in advance. The next collection opportunity will not take place until October, making this weekend an important cleanup date for many households.
Friday Fest and Spring Events Draw Crowds
Downtown also stayed lively Friday with Friday Fest, the Treasure Coast’s long-running street party featuring food vendors, arts and crafts, and family-friendly activities. Spring training games and other seasonal events continue to bring visitors and locals together across the city.
As March begins, Port St. Lucie is balancing growth, safety and community spirit — all in one busy weekend.
