FDOT lane closures in Miami-Dade: I-395/SR 836/I-95 schedule through July 24
Miami commuters face overnight I-395, SR 836 and I-95 lane closures, plus detours, through Friday, July 24—check FDOT’s posted times.
Miami commuters are heading into another busy stretch of night work on the I-395 / S.R. 836 / I-95 design-build corridor. Based on FDOT’s published Miami-Dade lane-closure schedule, restrictions run through Friday, July 24, 2026 and include overnight mainline lane reductions, full S.R. 836 shutdowns with detours, and a northbound I-95 ramp shutdown—plus daytime local-street disruption on N.W. 14 Street.
What FDOT’s schedule covers (through Friday, July 24)
FDOT’s lane-closure plan for the design-build corridor runs on the following blocks: Wednesday, July 15–Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19–Friday, July 24. Here are the key impacts drivers will see:
- I-395 mainline: one lane eastbound closed as needed from I-95 to Biscayne Boulevard between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.; and up to two lanes westbound closed as needed from Biscayne Boulevard to I-95 between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
- S.R. 836 full closures: eastbound closed at N.W. 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (Friday closures 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.); and westbound shut down as needed from N.W. 12 Avenue to N.W. 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (Friday closures 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
- I-95 lane reductions: southbound up to two lanes closed as needed from N.W. 29 Street to N.W. 8 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (Friday closures 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.); and northbound up to two lanes closed as needed from N.W. 8 Street to N.W. 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (Friday closures 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
- Northbound I-95 ramp shutdown: the northbound I-95 ramp to westbound S.R. 836 closed between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23 (detour instructions listed below).
- N.W. 17 Street nighttime closure under I-95: all travel lanes closed between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the same July 15–17 and July 19–24 blocks, with N.W. 20 Street as the alternate route.
- N.W. 14 Street daytime closure: N.W. 14 Street from N.W. 3 Avenue to N.W. 1 Place closed Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., through Monday, September 1, to erect precast roadway segments (with driver/pedestrian detours).
I-395: overnight lane reductions in both directions
FDOT says one lane eastbound on I-395 will be closed as needed between I-95 and Biscayne Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. during the schedule window through July 24. FDOT also lists up to two lanes westbound closed as needed between Biscayne Boulevard and I-95 during the same overnight hours. Because FDOT uses “as needed,” lane counts can vary by night—plan for slower travel during the posted windows.
S.R. 836: full shutdowns at/near N.W. 17 Avenue (with detours)
Eastbound S.R. 836: FDOT schedules all eastbound travel lanes closed at N.W. 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the window, with Friday closures implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
FDOT detours for eastbound S.R. 836 (when work is at N.W. 17 Avenue): exit at N.W. 17 Avenue, continue south across N.W. 7 Street, turn left at S.W. 1 Street, continue east, and turn right at South Miami Avenue. FDOT also notes that drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on S.W. 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at N.E. 11 Terrace.
Westbound S.R. 836: FDOT schedules all westbound lanes on S.R. 836 closed as needed from N.W. 12 Avenue to N.W. 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the window, with Friday closures implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
FDOT detours for westbound S.R. 836: exit at the N.W. 12 Avenue ramp, then turn left on N.W. 12 Avenue; turn right on N.W. 7 Street; then turn right on N.W. 17 Avenue and continue north to connect with the westbound S.R. 836 ramp.
I-95: lane reductions plus a northbound ramp shutdown
Southbound I-95: FDOT lists up to two lanes closed as needed from N.W. 29 Street to N.W. 8 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (Friday closures 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
Northbound I-95: FDOT lists up to two lanes closed as needed from N.W. 8 Street to N.W. 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (Friday closures 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
Northbound I-95 ramp to westbound S.R. 836 (shutdown movement): FDOT says this movement is closed between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23. FDOT’s detour: go north on I-95, exit at N.W. 62 Street, turn left at N.W. 62 Street to access the southbound I-95 ramp, then use the southbound I-95 exit to westbound S.R. 836 (Exit 3A).
Local street disruption: N.W. 14 Street daytime closure for precast work
Beyond the interstates, FDOT also lists a daytime closure for nearby local traffic: N.W. 14 Street from N.W. 3 Avenue to N.W. 1 Place is closed Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Monday, September 1 to erect precast roadway segments. FDOT says drivers and pedestrians can use the detours shown on its page.
- Drivers on eastbound N.W. 14 Street: turn right on N.W. 3 Avenue, then turn left on N.W. 13 Street; turn left on N.W. 1 Place to connect with N.W. 14 Street.
- Drivers on westbound N.W. 14 Street: turn right on N.W. 1 Place, then turn left on N.W. 16 Street; turn left on N.W. 2 Avenue to continue onto N.W. 16 Street; or turn left on N.W. 3 Avenue to connect with N.W. 14 Street.
Also watch for “stacking” delays from unrelated crashes
FDOT’s schedule is only part of what can slow the corridor. On July 9, 2026, NBC 6 reported a crash near the Golden Glades that closed southbound I-95 lanes, with traffic heavily delayed. Even when an incident is separate from planned construction, the timing can stack with overnight work for a tougher commute.
Practical tips for drivers
- Plan alternative routes for the posted overnight and daytime windows—and don’t assume standard GPS routing will match FDOT’s detours.
- Expect variability: FDOT repeatedly uses “as needed,” so lane counts may change by night.
- Re-check the FDOT lane-closure page day-of: lane-closure plans can be adjusted as crews and conditions change.
Bottom line: If you commute through the I-395 / S.R. 836 / I-95 corridor in Miami-Dade this week, Thursday night and Friday’s schedule blocks are worth extra planning time—especially around the full S.R. 836 shutdowns and the northbound I-95 ramp restriction.
