Fergus Falls’ Cleveland Avenue reconstruction remains on track for August completion
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — Reconstruction of Cleveland Avenue is underway, and the City of Fergus Falls’ project overview gives the work an estimated completion date of August 2026.
The project is affecting how residents, businesses and commuters reach properties along the work area. Through traffic is closed in the project area, although local traffic is generally maintained for most of the project. Driveways may also be temporarily inaccessible while crews complete utility and roadway preparation.
Utility and roadway work
The Cleveland Avenue project includes improvements to the sanitary sewer, water main and storm sewer. The work also covers sidewalks, driveways, the roadway and drainage infrastructure.
Those elements mean the project is more than a surface road reconstruction. Utility and subgrade work can require temporary changes to property access as crews work through different sections of the project. The city’s overview does not say that every driveway is inaccessible, and it does not indicate that through traffic is closed across all of Fergus Falls.
The City of Fergus Falls Engineering Department is responsible for municipal water-main, sewer, street and alley construction and improvement projects. Cleveland Avenue is identified in the city’s official overview as a City of Fergus Falls project.
Part of a broader 2026 infrastructure program
The city’s 2026 project overview lists multiple infrastructure efforts, including continuing utility replacement work. It also lists landfill demolition with an estimated completion in fall 2026.
Separate funding information in the overview identifies another listed project that MnDOT will fully fund through a $500,000 lump-sum agreement. That amount is not identified as funding for Cleveland Avenue.
Infrastructure and utility planning also remained active in July. A July 20 city council discussion, summarized by GatherGov, addressed the scope and funding of 2027 infrastructure work, sidewalks, road projects, assessment policy, boulevard trees and lead-pipe replacement.
What residents can expect next
For now, the next stated milestone is the city’s estimated August 2026 completion window. The available project information does not provide a specific completion day, the Cleveland Avenue contract value or a current construction-percentage update.
The city’s overview is the latest approved project information in the source packet, but it does not include a newer Aug. 4–6 field update confirming whether the schedule has changed. Residents and businesses using Cleveland Avenue should therefore plan around the existing through-traffic closure and the possibility of temporary driveway restrictions while the work continues.
