Festival Finale, Storm Recovery and St. Patrick’s Parade Lead Honolulu Headlines
Honolulu, HI – March 17, 2026 – Festival crowds, emergency proclamation, and St. Patrick’s Day parade lead local headlines as city balances celebrations and storm recovery.
Honolulu is juggling celebration and recovery this week, with major cultural events wrapping up just days after a statewide emergency proclamation tied to severe weather.
Honolulu Festival Marks 30 Years
Waikīkī was packed over the weekend as the 30th annual Honolulu Festival brought cultural performances, exhibitions and a grand parade along Kalākaua Avenue. The three-day event, held March 13–15, featured live music and dance from across the Pacific Rim, with the popular Nagaoka fireworks lighting up the beach Sunday night.
Organizers highlighted the festival’s long-running mission of cultural exchange, while local businesses benefited from a surge in foot traffic. Road closures and heavy crowds were reported throughout Waikīkī during peak events.
Governor’s Emergency Proclamation for Kona Low
As festivalgoers gathered, the state was also responding to impacts from a recent Kona Low weather system. Gov. Josh Green issued an emergency proclamation covering March 10 through March 15, citing heavy rain, flooding concerns and storm-related damage across parts of the state.
The proclamation allows state agencies to expedite emergency response and recovery efforts. Officials continue to assess infrastructure impacts and encourage residents to document any storm damage.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade Steps Off Today
Today, March 17, Waikīkī hosts the 59th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at noon along Kalākaua Avenue. The family-friendly event features marching bands, military units and community groups celebrating Irish heritage island-style.
Drivers should expect midday road closures in the resort corridor, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early and use public transportation where possible.
