Flood Recovery Continues Across Honolulu After Historic Storms
Honolulu, HI – March 25, 2026 – Crews assess flood damage as over 2,000 remain without power after Oahu’s worst storms in 20 years.
Honolulu is still drying out after a series of intense storms brought what officials are calling the worst flooding on Oahu in more than two decades.
Damage Assessments Underway
On Tuesday, crews began surveying neighborhoods near downtown Honolulu and in Manoa Valley after a sudden downpour sent muddy water rushing through streets and into homes. Residents reported cars swept away and ground floors inundated as several inches of rain fell in just hours.
Emergency responders fanned out across affected areas to check infrastructure, clear debris and evaluate road conditions. City leaders said the latest storm followed days of already saturated soil, worsening runoff and flash flooding risks.
Power Outages and Rescues
Earlier in the week, more than 2,000 people across Oahu were left without electricity as floodwaters damaged equipment and forced precautionary shutoffs. Utility crews have restored service to many North Shore customers, but some repairs are still ongoing.
During the height of the flooding, more than 200 people were rescued from rising waters. Evacuation orders were issued for thousands of residents north of Honolulu as officials monitored a decades-old dam that was considered at risk. Those evacuation orders have since been lifted, though authorities continue to watch weather conditions closely.
State leaders have warned that total damage from the storms could be significant, with homes, vehicles and public infrastructure affected. While no fatalities have been reported, officials are urging residents to remain cautious around streams, standing water and unstable ground.
With additional showers still possible this week, emergency management teams are asking Honolulu residents to stay alert for updates and be prepared for changing conditions.
