Fort Lauderdale Gas Eases From Yesterday as Diesel Tops $5.44

Regular gas eased slightly in the Fort Lauderdale metro area on the latest AAA price check, while diesel moved higher and remained above $5.44 a gallon.

AAA listed regular gasoline at an average of $3.993 per gallon on July 28, 2026, down 1.8 cents from the previous day. Diesel averaged $5.448 per gallon, up 0.8 cents from the prior check.

Gas is lower than yesterday, but still above older comparisons

The small daily decline in regular gas does not yet amount to a broad reversal. AAA’s Fort Lauderdale metro figures show regular gasoline was still 14.8 cents higher than a month earlier and 88.1 cents higher than a year earlier.

That leaves drivers with a price that is just under $4 a gallon on average, while individual stations may be noticeably higher or lower depending on location, brand and competition. The metro figure is an average, not a guaranteed price at every Fort Lauderdale pump.

Diesel remains the heavier cost pressure

Diesel’s daily increase was modest, but the longer comparisons were more pronounced. The Fort Lauderdale metro diesel average was 22.8 cents above the week-ago level, 80.5 cents above the month-ago average and $1.776 higher than a year ago.

That matters most for businesses and workers who rely on diesel vehicles or equipment. Delivery operators, contractors, landscapers, repair companies, restaurants with supply routes and other service businesses may face higher operating costs when diesel remains elevated. Those costs can become a pressure on budgets, but the available price data does not establish that they have directly changed local menu, delivery or service prices.

Florida comparison

The U.S. Energy Information Administration listed Florida regular gasoline at $3.921 per gallon for the week of July 27. That figure provides statewide context, but it is not a Fort Lauderdale-specific daily average. EIA’s series is a weekly statewide measure, while AAA’s number is a daily metro snapshot.

For commuters and households, the practical takeaway is mixed: regular gas slipped from the previous day, but remains above its month- and year-ago comparisons. Diesel is moving in the opposite direction and continues to carry a much higher cost for commercial fleets and equipment operators.
