Springboro school construction expected to begin this summer under bond program

Springboro Community City School District is moving its bond program from planning toward construction, with physical work expected to begin in mid-to-late summer 2026 after surveys, permits and design plans are completed.

The program is expected to reshape school facilities and daily traffic around several Springboro campuses. It includes a new elementary school for students in prekindergarten through second grade, additional classroom space, a multi-use athletics complex, safety and technology upgrades, and traffic-related improvements.

School projects and expected timeline

The new PK-2 building is projected to open for the 2029-30 school year. That timeline means the district’s planning and construction schedule will determine when younger students move into the new facility and when existing school space can be used differently.

The district also estimates that construction on the multi-use athletics complex will begin in 2026 and finish in 2028. The complex is one of the major projects included in the bond program, alongside classroom, safety and technology work.

The district’s construction schedule describes the first physical work as dependent on several steps, including surveys, permits and completion of design plans. The mid-to-late summer 2026 estimate is therefore a planned start window rather than a report that all projects have already entered construction.

Campus traffic remains part of the plan

Traffic changes are another part of the program. A proposed second entrance to the campus containing Springboro High School, Dennis Elementary and Springboro Junior High was studied from Weidner Road as a possible way to reduce congestion.

The Weidner Road connection is described as a study for congestion reduction, not as a confirmed construction project. Its status matters to families and staff who travel through the shared campus, particularly during arrival and dismissal periods.

As the district advances the projects, construction timing will affect school facilities, student assignment and access around the campuses. The schedule for the PK-2 building and athletics complex also sets two separate milestones for families: projected completion of the athletics complex in 2028 and the planned opening of the new elementary building for the 2029-30 school year.

For now, the next known step is completion of the surveys, permits and design plans needed before the district’s expected mid-to-late summer construction start.
