Grand Prairie’s New Master-Planned Community
Grand Prairie is expanding its southern boundary by over 1,500 acres, paving the way for a 5,000-acre master-planned community called Goodland. This development will feature 15,000 residences, including townhomes, custom homes, and gated communities, accommodating approximately 50,000 residents. The community will also include shops, restaurants, schools, parks, and green spaces, aiming to create a “city within a city” approximately 45 minutes from Dallas-Fort Worth. Provident, a Dallas-based real estate firm, is leading the development, integrating over 1,600 acres of creek corridors and floodplain land into the design. A centralized mixed-use walkable Town Center is planned, along with light industrial uses and private employment campuses near Highway 67. This expansion is expected to drive growth and prosperity in Grand Prairie.
High-Speed Police Chase Leads to Arrest
In a recent incident, a suspect led multiple police agencies on a high-speed chase through Grand Prairie and Dallas, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph. The pursuit lasted over 30 minutes before the driver crashed into a concrete barrier within a construction site. The driver was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges. No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
Officer-Involved Shooting in Grand Prairie
Early Friday morning, a Grand Prairie police officer fatally shot a man after he allegedly assaulted a female passenger and reached for a handgun during a traffic stop. The incident began when the woman called 911, reporting that her intoxicated boyfriend was assaulting her and armed with a handgun while they drove west on Interstate 30. Officers located the vehicle, and as the officer approached, the woman exited the passenger side. The suspect refused to comply with commands and reached back inside the vehicle. Fearing for his life and the life of the female passenger, the officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A loaded handgun was later found in the area where the suspect was reaching. The female passenger was treated for injuries sustained during the assault and was released. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
