Water advisory issued, council meeting set, zoning agenda ahead
Grand Prairie, TX — February 6, 2026 — A temporary water advisory, a special City Council meeting, and upcoming zoning decisions headline local news.
Water advisory impacts areas north of I-20
Grand Prairie residents north of Interstate 20 were advised this week to avoid using tap water for drinking or cooking after a foaming agent entered the water system. City officials said the issue traced back to firefighting efforts during a large blaze, where a backflow event allowed the agent into water lines.
The city and state regulators began testing water samples immediately. Officials emphasized the situation was being monitored closely and that updates would be shared as soon as testing confirms next steps, including whether a boil water notice is required. Residents were told flushing toilets remained safe during the advisory.
Special City Council meeting scheduled
The City of Grand Prairie has scheduled a special City Council meeting for Wednesday, February 11, at City Hall. The meeting is set to begin in the late afternoon and will be held in the council briefing room downtown.
While the agenda has not been widely discussed yet, special meetings are typically called to address time-sensitive items that cannot wait for a regular council session. Residents may attend in person, and materials are expected to be posted ahead of the meeting.
Planning and zoning decisions coming up
The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet on Tuesday, February 10, to review rezoning cases, site plans, and development requests across the city. These meetings often shape future growth, including housing, commercial projects, and changes to land use rules.
Commission recommendations are later forwarded to City Council for final consideration, making this an important early step for projects that could affect neighborhoods throughout Grand Prairie.
Monthly siren test reminder
City officials also reminded residents that outdoor warning sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of each month, weather permitting. The February test took place earlier this week and is part of routine emergency preparedness efforts.
