Grand Prairie Kicks Off Black History Month with Free Events
Grand Prairie, TX — January 31, 2026 — The city is celebrating Black History Month with two free events this weekend. The Unity in Motion 5K took place on Saturday morning at Epic Central, starting at 8 a.m. On Sunday, a gospel concert is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. John Church on West Jefferson Street. Both events are open to the public and aim to honor the rich history and culture of the Black community in Grand Prairie.
The Black History Experience 2026 series, organized by the City of Grand Prairie and the Grand Prairie Black History Commission, will continue throughout February. Upcoming events include the Health Is Your Wealth Expo, focusing on health screenings and wellness sessions; A Tasteful Affair, featuring a live cooking demonstration centered on nutritious, culturally relevant meals; and Student of Love with Laterras R. Whitfield, hosted by the creator of the Dear Future Wifey podcast. These events reflect the city’s commitment to celebrating Black history and promoting community engagement.
