Grapevine City Council Advances Cleanup Project; GCISD Responds to State Inquiry
Grapevine, TX — February 6, 2026 — City leaders approved a $592K cleanup of a former shooting range; GCISD responded to a state request on a school event.
City Council Approves Environmental Cleanup
Grapevine City Council voted this week to move forward with a major environmental cleanup tied to a former outdoor shooting range. The $592,000 project will focus on removing lead-contaminated soil and restoring the site after years of use.
City officials said the work is necessary to ensure long-term safety and compliance with environmental standards. A third-party contractor will oversee testing and soil removal, working alongside state and federal environmental agencies. The cleanup is expected to begin later this month and take about three months to complete.
The former range has been inactive since 2018, when the city transitioned police training operations to a newer indoor facility. Leaders described the project as a long-planned step toward responsibly managing older city properties.
School District Addresses State Records Request
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is also in the local spotlight after responding to a request from the Texas Attorney General’s office related to a proposed sporting event at one of its high school campuses.
District officials said no formal agreement was ever finalized for the event to use school facilities. The district emphasized that it is following established local policies when responding to the request for information.
The issue stems from broader questions raised by the state about the event’s organizers, but school leaders noted that the matter remains administrative in nature and does not impact daily campus operations.
Looking Ahead
Between environmental cleanup efforts and school district oversight, the past few days have kept Grapevine’s local government and education leaders busy. Both items are expected to continue developing in the weeks ahead, with updates likely as projects move forward and reviews continue.
