Hammonton closes $2.6 million state water-bank loan for system upgrades

Hammonton closed on a $2.6 million loan from the New Jersey Water Bank on July 1, 2026, giving the town financing for upgrades, replacements and extensions in its drinking-water distribution system.

The New Jersey Infrastructure Bank identified the borrowing as a Hammonton Town water-infrastructure project. The financing allows the town to advance system work without relying solely on annual municipal revenues, while the projects may create future construction activity and debt-service costs for the municipality.

Projects already authorized

The loan closing follows several actions by Hammonton officials. At its June 22 Town Council meeting, the town adopted bond ordinances for two phases of Route 54 water-main replacement work.

The council also authorized a Lakeview Garden PFAS waterline project. PFAS is a term used for a group of human-made chemicals that can persist in the environment and have been associated with drinking-water concerns. The council’s authorization identifies the project as a waterline effort; it does not establish that construction has been completed.

The Route 54 work and the Lakeview Garden project are separate municipal actions. Public documents do not identify which individual projects, or what portions of them, are financed by specific parts of the $2.6 million loan.

Bidding activity in June

Hammonton also solicited bids in June for the Route 54 water-main replacement and the Bellevue Avenue capital project. The bid opening was scheduled for June 24, 2026, in Hammonton.

Those bidding and authorization steps show that the town has been moving water-system work through different stages of municipal approval and contracting. They should not be read as confirmation that every authorized project is complete. The loan closing is the confirmed financing milestone.

Construction involving water mains or waterlines can affect nearby residents, businesses and commuters, depending on the locations and timing of the work. The projects are intended to improve, replace or extend portions of Hammonton’s drinking-water distribution network.
