Salted Melon and Chastain Creamery are the first named retail tenants for Hillcrest, a mixed-use development under construction next to City Springs in Sandy Springs.
Developers Third & Urban and High Street Residential announced the tenants Oct. 27, 2026. Salted Melon is planned as its second Atlanta-area restaurant and sixth location overall. Chastain Creamery is planned as its second Atlanta-area shop. The developers describe the creamery as offering more than 50 handcrafted ice-cream flavors, including allergy-friendly options.
Hillcrest plans 392 homes and retail space
Hillcrest is an 8.1-acre site south of Mount Vernon Highway on Sandy Springs Circle, next to City Springs. Plans call for 362 apartments, 30 for-rent townhomes and more than 19,000 square feet of retail, arranged around a plaza and greenspace.
The housing plan totals 392 homes: 362 apartments and 30 townhomes. Apartments make up about 92% of that planned total, while townhomes account for about 8%. The split shows a residential component weighted toward apartments, alongside the planned retail space.
Rough Draft Atlanta reported in late October 2026 that construction was underway, with townhomes, retail spaces, a parking structure and portions of apartment buildings taking shape.
Summer 2027 is the reported tenant target
The Sandy Springs Record reported that Salted Melon and Chastain Creamery were expected to open in summer 2027. The developersโ announcement also described Hillcrest as opening in summer 2027. The Record reported that the project page listed overall completion in the third quarter of 2028, but did not say how that estimate relates to the summer 2027 description. Summer 2027 is the reported opening target for the two businesses, not a confirmed completion date for all of Hillcrest.
Third & Urban partner Hank Farmer said negotiations with several more tenants were active.
