70th anniversary logo contest opens

The city is inviting residents, students and local artists to design a new logo celebrating Imperial Beach’s 70th anniversary. Updates on Tijuana River sewage fixes and health study

The city has shared the first quarterly update from federal and regional agencies working toward a permanent solution to the Tijuana River sewage crisis. The update outlines progress on infrastructure upgrades aimed at capturing and treating polluted flows before they reach Imperial Beach’s shoreline.

Residents are also being invited to participate in the “Healthy Water, Healthy Air” research study, which is collecting information about how pollution in the river and estuary affects local air quality, water and public health. City leaders say community input will help guide future investments and give residents a stronger voice in regional decisions.

Volunteer opening on Tidelands Advisory Committee

An unexpected vacancy has opened on the city’s Tidelands Advisory Committee, which advises on coastal, bayfront and tidelands issues. The volunteer position runs through March 31, 2027, and the city is encouraging residents with an interest in shoreline access, recreation and environmental stewardship to apply.

Applications and resumes are due by February 27 at 5 p.m. City staff note that the committee plays a key role in reviewing projects and policies that shape how the waterfront is used and protected.

Chamber marks 70 years with waterfront event

The local chamber of commerce highlighted the community’s business history this week with a gathering at The View at Seacoast, part of a series of events marking 70 years of commerce in Imperial Beach. The event brought together business owners, civic leaders and residents to network and talk about upcoming opportunities downtown and along the beachfront.

Later this month, the chamber will continue those conversations at its regular breakfast meeting, giving local entrepreneurs a chance to compare notes on the winter season and plan for spring and summer visitors.
