Kentwood Daily Brief: Police Response, School Rankings, Community Giving
Kentwood saw a mix of public safety activity, education news, and community efforts over the past two days. Here’s a quick look at what residents should know heading into the weekend.
Police investigate Thursday night incident
Kentwood police were called to the area of Ridgebrook Avenue and Carriage Hill Drive late Thursday evening following reports of gunfire. Officers located a juvenile with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. The individual was treated and taken to a local hospital.
Police said evidence was found at the scene, and the investigation remains active. Authorities have indicated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Kentwood Public Schools releases new performance data
Newly published statewide data shows Kentwood Public Schools ranking in the middle range among Michigan districts for math college readiness. The figures are based on SAT results from the 2022–23 school year, offering a snapshot of long-term academic trends rather than current classroom conditions.
District leaders have continued to point to curriculum updates and student support programs as areas of focus moving forward.
Community food drive underway
The Kentwood Police Department has partnered with a local retailer for a “Cram the Cruiser” donation event benefiting the Kentwood Little Free Pantry. The drive aims to help restock shelves as winter demand remains high for food assistance.
Residents are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items throughout the event.
Looking ahead
With winter weather continuing and several community events scheduled in the coming weeks, city officials are reminding residents to stay informed through local alerts and city updates.
