Closer to home today, families can wind down the weekend at the CAST Bingo Night scheduled for this evening from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Organizers say it is meant as a low-key way to bring the school community together in the middle of the winter stretch.

District leaders are also continuing a months-long search for the next superintendent, with the current superintendent set to retire at the end of the school year. Semi-finalists will be identified later this month, followed by community forums before a final decision is made in March.

City gears up for a busy 2026 event season

City staff are already looking ahead to a full calendar of special events. Highlights this year include Kuna Kindness Week in mid-February, the Hometown Fair and spring softball in May, and a 250th anniversary-themed Fourth of July fireworks show. Summer will bring Greenbelt concerts, Moonlight Movies in the park, and the popular Kuna Days festivities, with fall and winter events rounding out the schedule.

Registration remains open for the adult spring volleyball league, which runs from late February through April at the 4th Street Gym. Teams play on Monday and Wednesday evenings, giving residents an option to stay active and connected as the weather slowly improves.

Planning for growth and preserving local culture

Alongside events and recreation, the city’s Planning and Zoning Department is preparing a major update to Kuna’s comprehensive plan. Officials have put out a call for a consulting team to help rewrite the plan and its future land use map, aiming to balance rapid growth with transportation, housing, and quality-of-life needs.

At the Kuna Arts and History Center, winter exhibits continue downtown. A textile-focused history display and a nature-themed art show are both scheduled to run through early April, giving residents a chance to explore local stories and regional artwork during the colder months.

Residents interested in these efforts can watch for upcoming public meetings of the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council later in February, where long-term growth and community priorities are expected to be recurring topics.

Business community meet-up ahead

Looking ahead to next week, local business owners and entrepreneurs will gather for a February Coffee and Conversations meet-up at a downtown café on February 13. The informal morning event is billed as a chance to swap updates, hear what is new in town, and strengthen connections among the small business community.
