Lane Closures, Record Heat and Weekend Rallies Lead Milwaukee Headlines
Milwaukee, WI – March 10, 2026 – Long-term I-94 lane closures begin, record warmth hits the city, and weekend rallies draw crowds across Milwaukee.
It has been a busy few days across Milwaukee, with major traffic changes, unusual March weather and large weekend gatherings topping local headlines.
I-94 Lane Closure Begins
A long-term lane closure is now underway on I-94 eastbound between 35th Street and 25th Street as part of the ongoing expansion project. The closure began the evening of March 9 and is expected to last through late 2026.
The 35th Street on-ramp to eastbound I-94 is also closed. Transportation officials say drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes, especially during peak commuting hours and as Brewers season approaches. Some lane restorations are planned later this month, but the broader project will continue into next year.
Record Warmth, Then Storms
Milwaukee flirted with record-breaking warmth on Monday, March 9, with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s. The previous record for March 9 was 67 degrees, set in 2016.
The spring preview is short-lived. Forecasters say thunderstorms are possible Tuesday night, followed by a sharp cooldown and the potential for slushy snow by midweek. After a taste of May-like weather, winter is not quite finished with southeastern Wisconsin.
International Women’s Day Events Draw Crowds
Over the weekend, local organizers marked International Women’s Day with a series of events across the city. Activities included a vendors market, community workshops and a rally and march at King Park on March 8.
Organizers focused on issues such as bodily autonomy, wage equity and immigrant rights, drawing support from several Milwaukee advocacy groups. The gatherings were part of a broader weekend of programming aimed at community engagement and activism.
