Lemon Grove Daily: Tenant Rules, Park Upgrade, and Freshly Paved Streets

City strengthens protections for renters

Lemon Grove has put a temporary urgency ordinance in place to give renters more stability when they face no-fault evictions. The measure, adopted this week by the City Council, adds local rules on top of state law.

Under the new policy, most tenants who receive a no-fault eviction notice must now get at least 120 days’ notice. Landlords are also required to provide relocation assistance and additional rent support at fair market rates when they ask tenants to move for reasons such as major renovations or taking a unit off the rental market.

Extra protections apply to low-income residents, seniors, people with disabilities, and households with children, who can qualify for additional months of assistance. The ordinance took effect immediately and is scheduled to remain in place for 180 days while the city studies longer-term options.

New playground underway at Lemon Grove Park

Construction has begun on a full replacement of the aging playground at Lemon Grove Park. The current play structure, which is more than 20 years old and has seen frequent repairs, is being removed and replaced with modern equipment.

The project is funded through a state parks grant and is designed to meet current safety and accessibility standards. Plans call for new play areas serving children ages 2–12, with updated climbers, slides, and ground-level features that are easier to use for kids with mobility or sensory needs.

Work is expected to take about a month, weather permitting. Families may see temporary closures around the playground area, but other parts of the park should remain open during construction.

Street repaving project declared complete

The city’s latest round of street rehabilitation work has officially wrapped up. As of February 3, crews have finished this phase of a citywide effort to resurface and repair neighborhood streets.

The project used the city’s pavement management program to decide which blocks needed slurry seal, fresh pavement, or full reconstruction. Residents in the completed areas should notice smoother driving conditions and refreshed striping. City staff say future phases will continue to follow this data-driven approach as funding allows.

Looking ahead

The weekly Lemon Grove farmers market continues on upcoming Thursdays, and a free household hazardous waste drop-off event is scheduled for February 14. Residents can check the city’s events calendar for details before they go.
