The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Planning Commission rejected a rezoning request for a proposed 10-story student-housing development at its Oct. 22 hearing. WKYT reported the vote was 5-0 against the change, with one abstention.
Chicago-based Up Campus Student Living sought the zoning change for properties on East High Street, Hagerman Court and Stone Avenue. Before the hearing, Aylesford neighbors opposed the proposal, citing concerns about historic homes and affordable housing, WKYT reported. Those were residentsโ concerns, not established project impacts.
The cityโs Planning Commission page lists the hearing for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Council Chamber, but does not record the vote tally. The commissionโs rejection is not, by itself, a final Urban County Council decision. The city describes the commissionโs role as making recommendations to the council on zone-change requests, and its page does not list a next step for this application.
