Lexington Gas Falls to $3.683 as Diesel Nears $5

Regular gasoline and diesel moved in opposite directions in AAA’s latest Lexington metro price check. Regular gas fell to $3.683 per gallon, while diesel climbed to $4.994.

Regular gas is lower than the previous check

Lexington’s regular-gas average fell 2.1 cents from the previous AAA check, when it was listed at $3.704 per gallon. The weekly comparison is also lower: the metro average is down 13.5 cents from $3.818 a week earlier.

The longer comparisons remain higher. AAA’s table shows regular gas at $3.454 a month ago and $2.880 a year ago. The latest average is therefore 22.9 cents above the month-ago level and 80.3 cents above the year-ago level.

Diesel is nearly $5 per gallon

Diesel rose 1.9 cents from the previous check, increasing from $4.975 to $4.994 per gallon. The weekly trend is also higher: diesel is up 16.8 cents from $4.826 a week ago.

Diesel is higher over the longer comparison windows as well. The Lexington metro average was $4.563 a month ago and $3.482 a year ago, putting the latest price 43.1 cents above the month-ago level and $1.512 above the year-ago level.

What the split means locally

For households and commuters using regular gasoline, the daily and weekly movement offers some relief at the pump. The difference may matter most for people filling larger vehicles, making frequent trips or traveling across the region this weekend, although total savings depend on how much fuel they buy.

The diesel increase carries different implications for delivery operators, contractors, farmers, restaurants, service companies and other businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Higher diesel costs can put pressure on operating budgets and may eventually affect delivery charges, service pricing or travel decisions. The AAA averages do not show how any specific business is responding.
