City council advances solar plan for a former landfill
The Urban County Council moved forward a proposal to lease the city’s decommissioned landfill in eastern Fayette County for a large solar installation covering more than 300 acres. The developer says the site could turn a long-term maintenance liability into steady lease revenue for the city.
Under the deal described publicly this week, the land would be leased at an estimated rate per acre and the project includes a community benefits agreement that could steer money toward programs like energy assistance and rental assistance. Some councilmembers have said they want clearer, more direct benefits for constituents as negotiations continue. A second reading is scheduled for March 12, and construction could start as soon as July if approvals hold.
Fayette County school investigates reported classroom language
Fayette County Public Schools is investigating a report involving a Lafayette High School teacher’s language in class. School leaders told families the matter is being handled under district personnel and professional-conduct protocols, and that administrators and counselors were planned to support students and help restore a safe classroom environment.

A public recognition event is set for Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. at the Stand monument at South Mill and West Vine.
