Plane crash under investigation

Federal officials are investigating a plane crash in Lexington County that left one person dead and another injured early Friday. Two recent crashes snarl major roads

Emergency crews responded Thursday afternoon to a collision with injuries at the busy intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Hope Ferry Road. Dispatch traffic described a motor vehicle crash with at least one person hurt and multiple units coordinating at the scene. The extent of the injuries has not been made public, but drivers in the area reported delays as responders cleared the roadway.

A separate high impact crash was reported earlier this week along East Main Street near Augusta Road and Library Hill Lane. That collision, which drew fire and rescue units in the early morning hours, also involved reported injuries. District hosts Pathways to Employment fair today

Job seekers interested in working in local schools have a full day opportunity today. Lexington County School District One is hosting its Pathways to Employment fair from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the district office on Tarrar Springs Road. The event highlights openings for classroom teachers, special education professionals, bus drivers, food service staff, custodial workers and other support roles across the district.

Attendees can talk directly with hiring managers, learn more about certification pathways and submit applications on site. The district is encouraging both experienced educators and career changers to attend.

Looking ahead, Lexington County has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, February 10, at 5:30 p.m. on a proposed zoning change near Garden Valley Lane. The ordinance would shift several parcels from low density residential to a restrictive development zoning category. Residents in the surrounding area may want to review the proposal and share comments with county officials before or during the meeting.

At American Leadership Academy Lexington 6 12, families wrapped up two days of student led and parent teacher conferences heading into the weekend. The charter campus also hosted a slate of home basketball games Friday night, with more winter sports events and scrimmages on the schedule next week.
