LexRide Launches, Civic Assembly Advances Proposals, Senior Housing Opens in Lexington
Lexington, KY – April 2, 2026 – New downtown transit service launches as civic leaders advance policy proposals and senior housing expands.
Lexington’s focus on mobility, housing and civic engagement took center stage this week, with several developments shaping how the city grows and governs.
LexRide Launches Downtown
A new seasonal downtown circulator, LexRide, officially launches April 2. The service will connect key entertainment districts including downtown, the Distillery District and the Warehouse Block.
Buses will run Thursday through Saturday evenings from 4 p.m. to midnight through October, arriving every 12 to 15 minutes. City transit leaders say the goal is to reduce parking pressure, support small businesses and offer a reliable alternative to rideshare trips.
The pilot reflects broader local investment in transportation access as Lexington continues to grow.
Civic Assembly Resolutions Head to Council
After a month-long public process, the Lexington Civic Assembly finalized three resolutions that will now go before the Urban County Council. More than 70% of participating members approved the proposals.
The recommendations focus on local governance priorities and community-driven policy solutions. Council members are expected to review and consider the measures in upcoming meetings, adding another layer of public input to city decision-making.
38 Affordable Senior Housing Units Completed
A long-anticipated affordable housing development for seniors has wrapped up near Woodland Avenue. The project delivers 38 income-restricted units through a partnership between a local church and a private developer.
Ten units are located within the historic church building, with 28 in a newly constructed adjacent building. Local housing officials say the project is part of a broader effort to address rising housing demand and limited supply across Fayette County.
As Lexington balances growth with affordability, projects like this are becoming central to the city’s long-term housing strategy.
