Lomita Daily Briefing: Transit Updates and February Meetings
Today’s Lomita local briefing
Good morning, Lomita. Here’s a quick look at what’s new and what’s coming up around town as of Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Dial‑A‑Ride program details updated
The city has refreshed information for its Dial‑A‑Ride swipe card program, which offers round‑the‑clock taxi service for seniors and residents with disabilities. Eligible riders can travel within a defined service area in and around Lomita, with additional satellite stops at major medical and education centers in nearby cities.
Residents 60 and older, or disabled residents of any age, can apply by showing proof of Lomita residency, age and disability. The update clarifies who can use the program, where rides are allowed, and how trips beyond the core service area may include an extra fee.
Slope stabilization project on Palos Verdes Drive North
City Hall is moving ahead with slope stabilization work along Palos Verdes Drive North. Lomita is seeking proposals from geotechnical engineering firms to study the site and design long‑term fixes. The project is aimed at protecting the roadway, nearby utilities and hillside properties from erosion and instability.
Firms have until later this month to submit proposals, and the city is taking questions on the bid package through mid‑February. The work will feed into broader capital improvement efforts to keep key corridors safe and open.
Busy February for public meetings
After a quiet weekend on the calendar, Lomita’s monthly meeting cycle picks up this week. The Planning Commission convenes Monday evening, followed by City Council, Public Safety and Traffic Commission, and Parks and Recreation Commission meetings later in the month.
Agendas are posted in advance, and residents can attend in person at City Hall or follow along using posted materials. Items typically include development proposals, traffic safety concerns and updates on city projects.
Around town this weekend
Regional event listings show a full slate of social meetups, fitness classes and hobby groups gathering in and around Lomita, Torrance and the South Bay today. Many are low‑cost or free and geared toward casual conversation, outdoor exercise and community building.
If you are looking to get out of the house, it is a good day to check local listings for small group activities that match your interests, from brunch meetups to park yoga.
