Media Borough adopts plan to guide housing, traffic and development through 2035

Media Borough Council adopted the Media 2035 comprehensive plan in June 2026, establishing a long-range framework for decisions about land use, housing, economic development, traffic planning and environmental issues in the borough.

The plan sets a planning horizon through 2035. Its decisions will matter as Media considers how to accommodate future housing and business activity while preserving features residents identified as central to the community’s identity.

What the plan covers

The comprehensive plan addresses the borough’s approach to land use, including how development and redevelopment may fit into Media’s existing neighborhoods and commercial areas. It also covers housing and economic development, two areas that can affect the availability of homes, the strength of local businesses and the borough’s tax base.

Traffic planning and environmental decision-making are also part of the framework. Those subjects connect future development to movement through the borough and to decisions involving the community’s physical environment.

Media is a Delaware County community of approximately 5,900 residents. In a resident survey, people identified the borough’s small-town feel, historic architecture, walkability and diverse local businesses as important assets.

What adoption means

Adopting the plan gives the borough a policy guide for future planning and municipal decisions. It does not, by itself, rezone property or approve a particular housing, traffic or development project. Specific changes would require their own municipal actions and documentation.

That distinction matters for residents, property owners and businesses. The plan can shape the direction of future zoning, housing and infrastructure discussions, but the adoption itself does not immediately change what can be built on an individual parcel.

The framework also gives the borough a way to evaluate future proposals against stated community priorities. In practice, questions about growth, affordability, traffic and environmental effects can be considered alongside the historic and walkable character residents said they value.

Long-term planning requirement

Pennsylvania municipalities are required to maintain comprehensive plans and review them every 10 years. Media 2035 therefore provides a long-term reference point for the borough’s planning work, with the next decade serving as the plan’s stated horizon.

The adoption is the latest formal step in setting that direction. Future zoning measures, development proposals and other municipal decisions will determine how the plan’s goals are carried out in specific locations across Media.
