A new downtown concept unveiled Thursday would put Mesa behind a proposed $25 million technology-focused building tied to Arizona State University, alongside public-space upgrades aimed at drawing more student activity and evening foot traffic.
The early vision also includes an eight-story mixed-use tower and a nearly one-mile, lighted and shaded pedestrian corridor described as a ‘light walk.’ Several downtown sites were mentioned as possibilities for the project elements, but plans are still conceptual and would require further design work and multiple approvals before anything moves forward.
Near Mesa Gateway Airport: hotel project reaches a milestone
A five-story SpringHill Suites by Marriott has officially broken ground near Mesa Gateway Airport as part of the Gateway East area. Plans call for 127 suites intended to serve airport travelers, visitors to the nearby sports complex, and future business activity in the area.
The project details shared so far point to a lobby bar, outdoor pool, fitness center, and other traveler-focused amenities, positioning the hotel as another piece of the fast-changing airport district.
Regional help event: Mesa joins multi-city Community Impact Day (March 4)
Mesa is joining Chandler, Gilbert, and Tempe on Wednesday, March 4, for a one-day resource event focused on people experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing housing. Organizers say the event will run 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a church in Gilbert and bring together 60+ service providers.
Expect a mix of practical supports on-site, including housing and shelter connections, employment help, health services, veteran resources, and ID-related assistance. Up to about 300 people are expected to participate.
Weekend outlook: spring events ramp up across Mesa
A new spring roundup released this week highlights spring training planning tools and a broader slate of seasonal activities, including arts activations and festival-style events.
