Downtown arts light up Friday night

Mesquite’s weekend started with color on Friday as families headed downtown for the First Friday Family Art Walk, featuring hands-on projects, local artists and live demonstrations along Mesquite Boulevard.

Just a little later in the evening, community performers opened a new staging of “Murder on the Orient Express” at the Mesquite Community Theatre, kicking off a run that continues through next week. Residents who missed opening night still have several chances to catch the show.

On the economic front, Mesquite is beginning work tied to a recent state tourism grant aimed at strengthening the city’s reputation as a year-round destination for sports, events and outdoor recreation. That effort lines up with a busy local calendar that includes February’s Heart Walk, Western Roundup and a late-month symphony concert at Virgin Valley High School.
