Moreno Valley Mall Cleared to Reopen After Fire Code Shutdown
Moreno Valley, CA – March 8, 2026 – The Moreno Valley Mall has been cleared to reopen after weeks of fire code repairs and mounting fines.
Mall Reopens Following Safety Repairs
The Moreno Valley Mall has officially been approved to reopen after a temporary shutdown tied to serious fire and life-safety violations.
City officials ordered the mall closed on February 19 after inspectors identified nine critical issues involving fire sprinklers, alarm systems, smoke control features, emergency lighting, and related safety infrastructure. Portions of the property were red-tagged until the problems were addressed.
After weeks of repairs and coordination with the City and Riverside County Fire officials, the mall has now met the required safety standards. Tenants are permitted to reopen and employees may return to work.
Fines and Reimbursements Still Owed
While the reopening marks a major step forward for businesses and shoppers, the property’s ownership still faces significant financial obligations.
The mall is required to pay accumulated code enforcement fines totaling more than $280,000. In addition, it must reimburse the City for law enforcement services, with the current outstanding balance reported at more than $465,000 under longstanding development agreements.
City officials noted that fire personnel worked closely with mall representatives throughout the repair process, conducting inspections and reviewing documentation to ensure compliance before lifting the closure order.
Impact on Local Businesses
The shutdown affected more than 100 vendors and hundreds of workers. For many small businesses inside the mall, the sudden closure created uncertainty during an already challenging retail climate.
The reopening allows stores to resume operations and restore foot traffic at one of Moreno Valley’s primary shopping hubs. Shoppers are encouraged to confirm individual store hours as businesses transition back to normal operations.
City leaders emphasized that public safety remains the top priority and that enforcement actions are intended to protect tenants, employees, and visitors alike.
