New Haven commuters face a second Metro-North fare hike July 1
New Haven CT – Metro-North fares rise July 1, with Union and State Street in Zone 21 and a monthly ticket to Grand Central increasing to $518.50.
New Haven rail commuters are about to pay more again. CTDOT says rail fares in Connecticut will rise by about 5% on July 1, 2026, including Metro-North’s New Haven Line and other Connecticut rail service.
That matters directly for riders using New Haven Union Station and New Haven State Street Station. The official fare table places both stations in Zone 21, which helps determine what riders pay for trips to and from New Haven.
What the July 1 increase means
The state fare-change page says this is the second 5% increase in less than a year. CTDOT previously raised rail fares on Sept. 1, 2025, and the next increase takes effect July 1.
For New Haven riders, the clearest example is the monthly commute to Grand Central Terminal. CT Insider reported that a monthly ticket from New Haven will rise to $518.50 from $494.75. The same report said a weekend day pass will rise to $40.50 from $38.50.
That may sound like a small percentage change, but repeated month after month it adds up. Frequent riders, especially workers and students who depend on rail for regional travel, will feel the increase more than occasional travelers.
For households already balancing housing, food, insurance, and transportation costs, the fare hike is another budget item to absorb. The important detail is timing: the higher prices are scheduled for July 1, not before.
