Davis I-80 ramp closure June 26–29: Caltrans detour for Richards Blvd drivers
Davis CA: Caltrans closes north/south Richards Blvd on-ramps to eastbound I-80 June 26 (9 p.m.)–June 29 (4 a.m.); detour via Old Davis Road; 55 mph.
Caltrans says the north- and southbound Richards Boulevard on-ramps to eastbound I-80 will close for an extended weekend construction window: 9 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2026 through 4 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2026.
The agency says workers will rebuild the on-ramp, and motorists will need to follow a detour to get back onto eastbound I-80.
What’s closing (and what speed to expect)
Caltrans’ notice is specific to the Richards Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound I-80. The construction zone speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph through the work area.

Caltrans’ suggested detour is:
- From north- or southbound Richards Boulevard, take the westbound I-80 on-ramp to Old Davis Road.
- Then turn around back onto eastbound I-80 (follow the posted detour/signage in place during the closure).
Because drivers enter the interchange from different directions, Caltrans’ guidance is best followed as “follow the posted detour/signage” rather than assuming one fixed route works for every starting point.
Why this is happening on the I-80 corridor
Caltrans ties the on-ramp work to the ongoing Yolo 80 Managed Lanes Project. At the same interchange, the City of Davis describes its Richards Boulevard / I-80 Interchange Improvements as work to improve traffic operations and multimodal safety by reconfiguring ramps and adding a grade-separated shared-use path, and says it has been working in parallel with Caltrans’ managed-lanes effort.

Caltrans cautions the schedule can change due to weather, equipment/material availability, or other unexpected events. Before you head out during the closure window, check Caltrans Highway Information / QuickMap for real-time status and follow all posted work-zone and detour signage.
