As Saturday unfolds in Nixa, families are coming off a big night at the community center, and the city is turning quickly toward a week of civic decisions and planning.

Parks & Recreation: Dance night delight

The annual Father Daughter Dance returned Friday evening at the Nixa Community Center, drawing families for music, photos, and activities.

The event capped a registration window that ran through Friday and offered light refreshments and keepsake pictures, giving many dads and daughters a reason to dress up and celebrate together close to home.

Skate park design goes to the public

Looking ahead, residents will have a chance this week to weigh in on the proposed design for a new skate park in town. A come-and-go community input session is set for Thursday, February 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The X Center on North Taylor Way.

Design renderings will be on display, and a representative from the design firm is expected to be on hand to walk people through features and collect feedback, making this one of the key chances for skaters and parents to shape the final plan.

City Hall: Council meets Tuesday

The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, at 6 p.m. at City Hall on West Mt. Vernon Street. The meeting will also be streamed online for those who prefer to follow along from home.

Council sessions typically cover growth, infrastructure, and public safety items, and residents are encouraged to attend or contact the city clerk ahead of time if they wish to speak during the public comment portion of the agenda.

The police department continues to recruit officers for 2026, highlighting updated pay scales and benefits designed to stay competitive as Nixa grows. The department stresses community-minded applicants and offers structured training and a field training program for new hires.

The fire protection district is reminding neighborhood groups and nonprofits that community rooms at its training center can be reserved for meetings and events, with options ranging from small gatherings to larger, auditorium-style setups.

In the schools, winter activities continue, with theatre and other student programs keeping calendars busy as families look ahead to spring performances and competitions.
